How I attracted 1,323 targeted visitors for an average .08 click in a Week
I ran an experiment on Google Adwords to test a strategy. This is the results.
Strategy Question
Could I get targeted traffic for a specific post on a topical subject for a reasonable price?
Finding the Subject

Placing an Ad
I created a campaign on Google Adwords for relevant keywords. The list is below.
Mars viewing,Mars sighting,Mars close to Earth,Mars August 27,planet Mars,Mars visible,Mars news
I ran the ad for search only and used exact keywords. I’m looking specifically for people who have received the email and want to know if it is true or false. Content searches will be a waste of time and exact matches will give me my target audience at a low cost.
My Ad
I created a simple ad that had the direct keywords and tantalized people with the answer in one place. Informational searchers don’t want to waste time but want the facts now.

Bidding
Since this is a topical search term, there is no competition and it is easy to gain a top spot for the minimum bid of .05 per click. I ran the ads for a week. On 14,902 impressions, I had 1,323 clicks for an average .08 per click. Some ads had a 20.67% CTR.

Conclusion
It is possible to use Google Adwords to hit a specific post by targeting an ad and limiting the keywords and search network. The next step will be to optimize the post for ads and affiliates to convert the traffic to pay directly for the cost of the ad while gaining the traffic boost to leverage for overall blog advertising.< div id=”ads”>
