Use Popular Stories to Drive Traffic
Is there a low cost method to entertain your subscribers and also drive traffic to your website? Yes. By using popular stories to drive new traffic to your blog and relating it’s significance to your current subscribers. Even if it you can’t find a good way to relate the story, it can serve as a good divergence no matter what your blog niche.
Example
The recent Britney Spears meltdown is a good example. Everyone the nex
t day was discussing the topic, but not everyone had seen the video. I quickly posted the full video and a post. I started a campaign at Google Adwords. I first experimented with the search network. I had a good conversion ratio of 15% but the cost was high at .14 per click. I then switched to the content network. I was able to attract 5200 visitors at less than .02 per click. I only had Adsense on the post but will have a better converting ad and affiliate for the next campaign. I also picked up 25 subscribers and plenty of exposure.
Where to Find the Stories
Two good sources are Google Trends and Tailrank. Go
ogle Trends list the top 100 search terms that are spiking in volume. It is updated throughout the day. After you click on the term it gives a graph and stories from blogs and new sources. It is a good starting point to research the topic. Tailrank analyzes the RSS feeds and tracks the hottest stories that are published on blogs. It breaks it down into Categories such as General, Technology, Politics, Entertainment, and Video. It is a little slower updating than Google Trends.
Another Source to find Videos
